I run Literature Finder and I am responsible for the data described here.
Your text
To check a text, I send it to the services below to find and compare papers. I do not publish or sell your text. Anyone with a claim-check report link can read that report and its text while it is kept, so share links carefully. If someone else checks exactly the same text, they may receive the same saved report.
Services that receive data
OpenRouter and its model providers receive your text, to phrase searches and compare claims with papers; each provider’s own data policy applies. OpenAlex receives search queries, including up to 1,500 characters of your text. Europe PMC, arXiv, Springer Nature and OpenAIRE receive search queries or paper identifiers. Vercel hosts the site, and Upstash stores reports, counters and logs. Cloudflare Turnstile receives your IP address to check that you are a person. Google Fonts serves a font on the main page.
Payments go through Lemon Squeezy, and this site never receives your card details. I keep order numbers, remaining checks and a hash of the license key, not your name, email address or the key itself.
Logs
Logs keep up to the first 3,000 characters of a main-page search or 300 characters of a claim check, with timing, errors, feedback and clicks. I copy the logs to my own computer to watch for errors and improve the tool.
Your IP address and browser
Your IP address is used for verification and limits, and counters and logs store it hashed. A signed cookie remembers your free checks, and another remembers purchased checks after you enter a key; each lasts up to 365 days. The verification session lasts 24 hours and is kept in browser storage, not a session cookie. Your recent searches and report links are kept in your own browser.
Analytics
The main page uses Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to measure visits. For visitors identified as being in the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland, they load only after consent. Clarity masks the text box, results and search history.
How long data stays
Reports and saved search results expire after 24 hours, and partial reports after 15 minutes. Free-check history covers 30 days. The activity and feedback logs keep the latest few thousand events, with no fixed time expiry. Payment records have no automatic expiry. Copies held by hosting and outside services follow their own retention.
A research study, if you join one, has its own consent, and its records expire 30 days after consent.
Your requests
To ask for a copy or deletion of your data, email lgboim@gmail.com with a report link or the approximate date. Please do not send card details or license keys. I will remove what I can find, including my own copies; some outside services keep copies I cannot delete.
